A JOINT RESOLUTION
Proposing to enact Section 5 of Article XV of the 1
Constitution of the State of Ohio to adopt the 2
American Allegiance Amendment to prohibit individuals 3
with citizenship in other countries from holding 4
elected public offices. 5
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the State of 6
Ohio, three-fifths of the members elected to each house 7
concurring herein, that there shall be submitted to the electors 8
of the state, in the manner prescribed by law at the general 9
election to be held on November 5, 2024, a proposal to enact 10
Section 5 of Article XV of the Constitution of the State of Ohio 11
to read as follows: 12
ARTICLE XV 13
Section 5. Notwithstanding Section 3 of Article XVIII of 14
this Constitution, no person who holds citizenship in a country 15
that is not the United States, as verified by the secretary of 16
state, shall hold elected public office in this state or a 17
political subdivision thereof. 18

EFFECTIVE DATE 19
If adopted by a majority of the electors voting on this 20
proposal, Section 5 of Article XV of the Constitution of the 21
State of Ohio enacted by this proposal shall take effect 22
immediately. 23
SCHEDULE 24
This amendment shall be titled the "American Allegiance 25
Amendment." 26
