A RESOLUTION
Honoring St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church
on its Bicentennial.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to 2
St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church on its Two Hundredth 3
Anniversary; and 4
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1824, St. Paul African Methodist 5
Episcopal Church has offered its members the pathway to a more 6
meaningful life by illuminating and demonstrating the precepts on 7
which the A.M.E. Church was founded. Purchasing a building in 1826 and 8
moving it to the west half of the current lot, the church replaced it 9
with a small brick structure in 1844 and then with the current edifice 10
beginning in 1866. The spirit of love and Christian fellowship that 11
exists within the church also extends beyond those sacred walls to 12
touch the lives of everyone encountered by these devout disciples; and 13
WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of its pastors, both past 14
and present, St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church has 15
experienced continual growth and has provided a source of moral 16
guidance and spiritual motivation for its congregation. Over the 17
years, the church has enhanced the quality of life within the area, 18
and through its generous efforts, it has earned the gratitude and 19
respect of the many citizens it has so capably served; and 20
WHEREAS, An occasion such as this is an important milestone that 21
represents dedication and commitment. For two centuries, the members 22
of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church have kept their faith 23
alive in the Urbana community, and on this special anniversary, they 24
have accepted the challenge of carrying their beliefs into the future; 25

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 27
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 28
commend St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church on its Two 29
Hundredth Anniversary and pay tribute to all those joining in the 30
celebration of this joyous event; and be it further 31
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 32
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to St. Paul African 33
Methodist Episcopal Church. 34
