A RESOLUTION
Honoring Mateo Medina as a three-time 2024 Division I
State track and field champion, an All-American, and a
national runner-up.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to commend Mateo Medina on winning the 100-, 200-, 2
and 400-meter dashes at the 2024 Division I State Track and Field 3
Championship Meet, being named an All-American, and winning second 4
place in the 400-meter dash at the 2024 New Balance Nationals; and 5
WHEREAS, Mateo Medina is worthy of acknowledgement for his 6
numerous athletic accomplishments. A student at Elyria High School, he 7
placed first in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes with respective 8
times of 10.82, 21.67, and 45.88 at the Division I State Meet, earned 9
All-American honors in each of these events for his tremendous 10
efforts, and placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.41 11
at the New Balance Nationals. In addition, he entered the state record 12
books for being just the sixteenth boy in history to secure a triple 13
crown in sprint events at the state track and field championship and 14
only the fifth one to single-handedly win the state title for his 15
team; and 16
WHEREAS, Mateo Medina’s tremendous ability and spirited drive, as 17
well as his quickness and tenacity, have distinguished him as a 18
superior sprinter. Indeed, he is a remarkable individual, for he has 19
successfully combined talent and competitive spirit with the highest 20
ideals of good sportsmanship to become a truly exceptional athlete; 21
and 22
WHEREAS, Mateo Medina’s superb record of personal achievement 23
stands as a hallmark worthy of emulation, and he has inspired 24

countless individuals to excel. The respect and admiration that he has 25
earned throughout his high school career are clearly evident, and his 26
exceptional prowess has made his family and his friends very proud; 27
therefore be it 28
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 29
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Mateo Medina on 30
his tremendous success during the 2024 track and field season and 31
salute him as one of Ohio’s finest citizens; and be it further 32
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 33
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Mateo Medina. 34
