SUMMARY
 Requires state institutions of higher education to provide academic accommodations to
students who work as precinct election officials.
DETAILED ANALYSIS
Student accommodations
The bill requires each state institution of higher education to adopt a policy that excuses
student absences related to work as a precinct election official. The policy must:
1. Permit a student to be absent to train to be or work as a precinct election official;
2. Provide the student with alternative accommodations for exams and other academic
requirements missed due to training to be or working as a precinct election official, as
long as the student gives the instructor at least 24 hours advance written notice of the
specific date for which the accommodations are requested; and
3. Require the state institution to notify all students of accommodations for students who
work as precinct election officials.
The bill prohibits a state institution from imposing an academic penalty as a result of a
student’s absence to train to be or work as a precinct election official.1
