SUMMARY
▪ Increases the penalty for attempting to intimidate an election officer, or preventing an
election official from performing the official’s duties from a first degree misdemeanor to
a fifth degree felony.
DETAILED ANALYSIS
Increased penalty for attempting to intimidate an election officer
or preventing an election official from performing the official’s
duties
Continuing law prohibits a person from attempting to intimidate an election officer, or
preventing an election official from performing the official’s duties.1 A violation of this prohibition
is currently a first degree misdemeanor. The bill increases the penalty to a fifth degree felony.2
