A RESOLUTION
Honoring Jonathan Powell
as the 2024 OHSBCA Division I Player of the Year.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Jonathan Powell 2
on being named the 2024 Ohio High School Basketball Coaches 3
Association Division I Player of the Year; and 4
WHEREAS, Jonathan Powell’s outstanding ability and spirited drive 5
have distinguished him as a superior athlete. A senior member of the 6
Centerville High School boys basketball team, he averaged 19.7 points, 7
4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game over the course of the 2023- 8
2024 season while helping the Elks advance to the state tournament for 9
the fourth consecutive time, and consequently, he was selected as the 10
Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Division I Player of 11
the Year. Indeed, he is greatly esteemed by all those who have 12
witnessed him in action; and 13
WHEREAS, In displaying remarkable prowess, Jonathan Powell has 14
earned the appreciation of his fellow athletes, the respect of even 15
his most determined rivals, and the admiration of countless fans, 16
including his family, his school community, and his coach, Brook 17
Cupps. Competition in athletics has enabled him to learn much about 18
dedication and self-discipline, and we take this opportunity to pay 19
tribute to his exceptional record of achievement; and 20
WHEREAS, Basketball is a sport that requires extensive teamwork, 21
natural ability, and tenacity, and Jonathan Powell is to be commended 22
for his commitment to this demanding athletic endeavor. In attaining 23
his goals, he has consistently exhibited the skill and integrity that 24
are the hallmarks of a true champion; therefore be it 25

As Offered
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 26
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 27
extend recognition to Jonathan Powell on his impressive high school 28
basketball career and look with optimism to his bright, promising 29
future; and be it further 30
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 31
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Jonathan Powell. 32
