A RESOLUTION
Honoring Ted Karras
as the winner of the 2023 Nationwide Charity Challenge.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to commend Ted Karras on placing 2
first in the 2023 Nationwide Charity Challenge and being nominated for 3
the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award; and 4
WHEREAS, The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is the most 5
prestigious honor the National Football League can accord, and its 6
coinciding Nationwide Charity Challenge seeks to make a lasting 7
difference in a community of the nominee’s choice. As the first member 8
of the Cincinnati Bengals football team to be nominated for this 9
distinction, Ted Karras is certainly deserving of high praise, and he 10
has clearly demonstrated his commitment to improving the quality of 11
life in our society through his support of a non-profit living 12
community for individuals with intellectual or developmental 13
disabilities, the Village of Merici; and 14
WHEREAS, Since entering the NFL in 2016, Ted Karras has worked 15
closely with the Village of Merici, serving as a donor, fundraiser, 16
and event host, and he has played an instrumental role in the success 17
of its Cincy Hat Initiative. To his credit, he has promoted a line of 18
merchandise, with a portion of each sale going to support the 19
organization, and he also provided a matching donation of $100,000 at 20
its inception in 2022 as well as an additional $120,000 matching 21
donation in 2023. Through his generous contributions, he has earned 22
the respect and esteem of all those who appreciate integrity and 23
selflessness, and consequently, he was voted, out of all the nominees, 24
as the winner of the 2023 Nationwide Charity Challenge; and 25

WHEREAS, Ted Karras’ inspirational efforts and achievements 26
reflect his decency, dignity, and dedication, and he has amply 27
demonstrated how very much a conscientious and industrious person can 28
accomplish. Without fanfare, he has proven himself to be innovative, 29
resolute, and utterly dependable, and young athletes could find no 30
finer example to emulate; therefore be it 31
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 32
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay 33
tribute to Ted Karras as the winner of the 2023 Nationwide Charity 34
Challenge and extend best wishes for happiness and fulfillment in the 35
years to come; and be it further 36
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 37
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Ted Karras. 38
