DETAILED ANALYSIS
The bill designates the following highway and authorizes the Director of Transportation
to erect suitable markers along the highway indicating its name:
Designated Name “Patrolman James P. Gardner Memorial Highway”1
Highway U.S. Route 62, running in an easterly and westerly direction, between
Western Avenue and South Mahoning Avenue in Alliance, Ohio.
Other Information Patrolman James P. Gardner was killed on February 28, 1948, in a patrol car
crash at age 24 while pursuing a traffic violator near Alliance on U.S. Route
62. Prior to his employment with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Gardner was
honorably discharged after serving for three and a half years with the U.S.
Navy in World War II.
