Observing Rare Disease Day in Ohio,
February 29, 2024.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize Rare Disease Day in 2
Ohio, February 29, 2024; and 3
WHEREAS, Although it is easy to take our health and well-being for 4
granted, even those with seemingly perfect health may be at risk of 5
developing any number of rare diseases. Rare Disease Day serves to 6
bring awareness about the isolation felt by those whose lives have 7
been impacted by a rare disease as well as the challenges of being 8
without treatment and answers to their medical questions; and 9
WHEREAS, The impact rare diseases have on an individual and their 10
family is impossible to estimate, as it goes beyond simple economic 11
influence and touches all facets of our society. The health of our 12
communities must instead be viewed as a human development issue, for 13
by creating an Ohio with further awareness of these conditions, more 14
people may be able to succeed longer and possibly be able to pursue 15
their dreams and passions. Indeed, the many fine supporters who have 16
united behind Rare Disease Day are to be praised for their advocacy; 17
and 18
WHEREAS, While the causes and treatments of rare diseases are 19
usually unknown, people’s stories have become a force to help others 20
deal with these incurable conditions, and it is our sincere hope that 21
Rare Disease Day will positively impact our state by educating 22
individuals about the risks and issues those diagnosed with them face. 23
Together, we can work to ensure that more citizens are able to thrive 24
to the best of their ability in the Ohio of tomorrow; therefore be it 25
