A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Pomeroy Fire Department
as the 2024 Ohio Fire Department of the Year.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to 2
the Pomeroy Fire Department on being presented with the 2024 Ohio Fire 3
Department of the Year Award by the Ohio Department of Commerce 4
Division of State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Department of Public 5
Safety Division of EMS; and 6
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is a fitting tribute to the 7
Pomeroy Fire Department, for throughout its history, it has achieved a 8
praiseworthy record of service to local residents. Founded in 1847, 9
the agency requires its members to attain Firefighter I certification 10
within three years, although most have further advanced their 11
training, and it has received a Class 3 rating from the Insurance 12
Services Office, partnered with the Pomeroy Firemen’s Association to 13
improve fire prevention education, and assisted with numerous 14
community projects and events. The accomplishments of this entirely 15
volunteer department are a justifiable source of pride and a fine 16
reflection not only on the institution itself but also on its diligent 17
members and on the entire community; and 18
WHEREAS, While many people are content to take a passive role in 19
life, the members of the Pomeroy Fire Department have risked their own 20
safety to ensure the well-being of their fellow citizens, and they 21
have earned the gratitude and respect of the community they have so 22
capably served. We are certain that as they maintain their dedication 23
to service, these individuals will continue in the tradition of 24
excellence which has long been the agency’s hallmark; and 25
WHEREAS, Countless citizens in the community owe their safety, and 26

some their very lives, to the volunteers of the Pomeroy Fire 27
Department, who have displayed outstanding courage and initiative in 28
the performance of their duties. Their enthusiasm and devotion are 29
truly astounding; therefore be it 30
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 31
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 32
commend the members of the Pomeroy Fire Department for their loyal 33
service to the community and salute them as exemplary Ohioans; and be 34
it further 35
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 36
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Pomeroy Fire 37
Department. 38
