                       A RESOLUTION
           Honoring Matt Somerlot on being inducted into the
2024 Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.
     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th   1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Matt Somerlot on    2
being selected as a 2024 inductee into the Ohio Association of Track     3
and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame; and                              4
     WHEREAS, Matt Somerlot is, indeed, deserving of this prestigious    5
distinction, which has been accorded to him in recognition of his        6
numerous coaching accomplishments. A former track and field thrower at   7
Centerville High School, he commenced his tenure at his alma mater as    8
an assistant track and field coach in 1996, becoming the head boys       9
track coach in 2000 and also the head girls track coach in 2015, and     10
he has also assisted the cross country programs for several seasons.     11
Over the years, he has guided his track and field teams to thirteen      12
Greater Western Ohio Conference championships, twenty-five district      13
titles, and four regional crowns as well as numerous individuals to      14
state championships and awards, and he has been named the Greater        15
Western Ohio Conference Coach of the Year eleven times and the           16
District 13 Coach of the Year in 2011; and                               17
     WHEREAS, Matt Somerlot’s exceptional record of personal and         18
professional success stands as a hallmark worthy of emulation, and he    19
has inspired countless people to excel in numerous areas of endeavor.    20
As a coach, he has demonstrated remarkable energy, enthusiasm, and       21
dedication in leading his teams, and in so doing, he has not only        22
encouraged his athletes to develop their talents to the fullest but      23
also instilled in each a valuable sense of determination,                24
perseverance, camaraderie, and school spirit; and                        25
    WHEREAS, The respect and admiration which Matt Somerlot has earned 26

throughout    his lifetime are clearly evident. His achievements and            27
leadership    are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent                28
reflection    on him, his family, his athletes, his school, and his             29
community;    therefore be it                                                   30
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of          31
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution,                32
commend Matt Somerlot on his induction into the 2024 Ohio Association           33
of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame and salute him as one           34
of Ohio’s finest citizens; and be it further                                    35
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit          36
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Matt Somerlot.                  37
