A RESOLUTION
Honoring Jesse Mendez as a 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling
Champion.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Jesse Mendez on winning the 2024 2
National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Wrestling 3
Championship in the 141-pound weight class; and 4
WHEREAS, A sophomore at The Ohio State University, Jesse Mendez 5
has combined talent and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of 6
good sportsmanship to establish himself as a truly exceptional 7
athlete. With admirable dedication, he has worked diligently toward 8
attaining ultimate proficiency in wrestling, and as a result, he 9
defeated his opponent by the score of 4-1 to secure this year’s NCAA 10
Division I title in the 141-pound weight class; and 11
WHEREAS, Jesse Mendez’s accomplishments and leadership, both in 12
and out of competition, are a justifiable source of pride and a fine 13
reflection not only on him but also on his family, his teammates, his 14
coaches, his school, and his hometown. His unwavering commitment to 15
excellence has earned him the respect and esteem of many, and he is 16
certainly worthy of high praise; and 17
WHEREAS, With athletics playing such an important role in the 18
total education of our young people, we are extremely pleased to pay 19
tribute to Jesse Mendez on an exemplary season. Indeed, the same 20
maturity and experience he has gained through his participation in 21
wrestling will greatly aid him in meeting the challenges of the 22
future; therefore be it 23
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 24
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Jesse Mendez on 25

his national championship and extend best wishes for continued 26
success; and be it further 27
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 28
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Jesse Mendez. 29
