A RESOLUTION
To urge the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation to 1
induct musician and songwriter Tracy Chapman into 2
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 3
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF
OHIO:
WHEREAS, American musician and songwriter Tracy Chapman was 4
born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1964; and 5
WHEREAS, In 1989, Chapman won three Grammy Awards, 6
including "Best New Artist," "Best Contemporary Folk Album," and 7
"Best Female Pop Vocal Performance"; and 8
WHEREAS, Chapman's song "Give Me One Reason," won the 1997 9
Grammy Award for "Best Rock Song"; and 10
WHEREAS, Chapman has a career total of nearly 44 million in 11
studio album sales; and 12
WHEREAS, Chapman has been involved with Cleveland's 13
elementary schools, producing an educational music video 14
highlighting achievements in African-American history; and 15
WHEREAS, Chapman has devoted her life to social activism, 16
with an interest in human rights; and 17

WHEREAS, In 2023, Chapman became the first Black person to 18
to win the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year, 19
when Luke Combs covered her song "Fast Car"; now therefore be it 20
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of 21
Representatives of the 135th General Assembly of the State of 22
Ohio, in adopting this resolution, urge the Rock and Roll Hall 23
of Fame Foundation to nominate musician and songwriter Tracy 24
Chapman for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and 25
additionally to select Chapman for induction; and be it further 26
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives 27
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the 28
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and to the news media of 29
Ohio. 30
