A RESOLUTION
Honoring The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on its
One Hundred Seventy-fifth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to The Cathedral of 2
St. John the Evangelist on the memorable occasion of its One Hundred 3
Seventy-fifth Anniversary; and 4
WHEREAS, In 1848, Bishop Amadeus Rappe founded The Cathedral of 5
St. John the Evangelist as a representation of the union between the 6
local diocese with the Church of Rome, and for the past one hundred 7
seventy-five years, this dynamic house of worship has served as the 8
Mother Church of the Diocese of Cleveland. Indeed, it has encouraged 9
countless people from the surrounding neighborhoods to pursue lives of 10
service, learning, and fellowship, and it has been a tremendous source 11
of spiritual inspiration for its congregation; and 12
WHEREAS, This auspicious celebration offers the members of The 13
Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist the opportunity to share their 14
memories and to reflect on the benefits of life in their close-knit 15
community. Under the guidance of many fine religious leaders, the 16
parishioners have expanded on the best traditions of the past to 17
ensure a benevolent and prosperous future, and they can be proud of 18
the remarkable examples they have set through their values and 19
principles; and 20
WHEREAS, The members of The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist 21
have stood strong in the face of numerous challenges, and they have 22
had a positive impact on the lives of many. Indeed, this important 23
milestone represents their dedication and commitment to keep their 24
faith alive in the Cleveland community, and all those associated with 25
this beacon of society are deserving of high praise; therefore be it 26

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 27
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud The Cathedral 28
of St. John the Evangelist on its One Hundred Seventy-fifth 29
Anniversary and offer best wishes as it upholds its rich legacy of 30
faith and fellowship in the years to come; and be it further 31
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 32
authenticated copy of this Resolution to The Cathedral of St. John the 33
Evangelist. 34
