                       A RESOLUTION
           Honoring the Akron-Summit County Public Library on its One
              Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary.
     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly   1
of Ohio are pleased to commend the Akron-Summit County Public Library   2
on the auspicious celebration of its Sesquicentennial; and              3
     WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting    4
tribute to the Akron-Summit County Public Library, for throughout its   5
history, this fine institution has attained a remarkable record of      6
service to the area. Established in 1874, the system has grown to       7
include not only the main library but also eighteen branches across     8
the City of Akron and the County of Summit, two bookmobiles, and a      9
mobile services van, and it is truly deserving of high praise; and      10
     WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Akron-Summit County Public       11
Library has fostered education, culture, and individual growth by       12
providing a variety of innovative and beneficial programs and           13
services. As a focal point for many local activities and a valuable     14
instrument for community improvement, the library system has earned     15
the respect and appreciation of countless patrons and has set an        16
example of excellence that is worthy of emulation; and                  17
     WHEREAS, Public libraries play an important role in today’s        18
society, serving as receptacles of shared knowledge, information, and   19
ideas. They offer a means of enjoyment, self-advancement, and           20
intellectual development for all people, and as repositories for the    21
best of our nation’s endeavors, they are vital to the preservation of   22
our country’s heritage, principles, and ideals. We are proud to note    23
that it is through the efforts of institutions such as the Akron-       24
Summit County Public Library that our state has maintained its          25
reputation as a friendly, productive, and pleasant place in which to    26

live and work; therefore be it                                              27
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General      28
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate the Akron-      29
Summit County Public Library on its One Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary        30
and extend best wishes for continued success; and be it further             31
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly                 32
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Akron-Summit County            33
Public Library.                                                             34
