SUMMARY
Establishes the Ohio Task Force on Gun Violence, consisting of leaders from all three
branches of government, as well as members of the community.
Requires the Task Force to study gun violence in Ohio, programs and practices to reduce
gun violence, and ways to assist victims of gun violence.
Requires the Task Force to prepare and submit a report to the General Assembly within
one year of the bill’s effective date, whereupon the Task Force ceases to exist.
DETAILED ANALYSIS
Ohio Task Force on Gun Violence
The bill establishes the Ohio Task Force on Gun Violence (“Task Force”), to consist of the
following 13 members:
The Governor or the Governor’s designee;
The Attorney General or the Attorney General’s designee;
The Executive Director of the Commission on Minority Health or the Executive Director’s
designee;
The Director of Children and Youth or the Director’s designee;
The Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court or the Chief Justice’s designee;
Three members of the House of Representatives, two from the majority party and one
from the minority party, all appointed by the Speaker of the House;
Three members of the Senate, two from the majority party and one from the minority
party, all appointed by the Senate President;

Two members of the community who work to reduce gun violence, one appointed by
the Speaker of the House and one appointed by the Senate President.
The Task Force must meet within 30 days of the bill’s effective date to elect a
chairperson or co-chairpersons, and must then meet at the call of the chair, at least monthly.
Members serve without compensation, except to the extent their service is considered
part of the member’s regular employment.1
Duties of the Task Force
The Task Force must examine the prevalence of gun violence within communities across
Ohio, existing evidence-based programs that help reduce gun violence, best practices that are
available to reduce gun violence, community revitalization efforts that can be implemented to
prevent gun violence, criminal justice solutions to reduce gun violence in communities, and
social determinants of health that can be addressed to assist victims of gun violence.
Within one year of the bill’s effective date, the Task Force must present a report
detailing its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly, in the manner prescribed
by existing law. Once it has done so, the Task Force ceases to exist.2
