A RESOLUTION
Permitting the use of the Ohio Senate Chamber and hearing 1
rooms by the Western Ohio National Speech and Debate 2
Association on March 18, 2024. 3
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 4
of Ohio are pleased to grant permission for the Ohio Senate Chamber 5
and hearing rooms to be used by the Western Ohio National Speech and 6
Debate Association for its Congressional Debate Tournament on March 7
18, 2024; and 8
WHEREAS, As part of its annual Congressional Debate Tournament, 9
the Western Ohio National Speech and Debate Association will use the 10
Ohio Senate Chamber and hearing rooms on March 18, 2024, for a mock 11
legislative debate. This activity will provide a unique opportunity 12
for participants to experience firsthand rules and procedures similar 13
to those of the state legislature and will help them to better 14
understand the democratic process that is the cornerstone of our 15
nation; and 16
WHEREAS, The knowledge that participants will gain through their 17
involvement with the Western Ohio National Speech and Debate 18
Association Congressional Debate Tournament will not only enrich their 19
total educational experience but will also prepare them to take a more 20
active role in fulfilling their responsibilities as citizens of this 21
great state and nation; and 22
WHEREAS, The Ohio Senate Chamber and hearing rooms are an 23
appropriate location for the Western Ohio National Speech and Debate 24

Association Congressional Debate Tournament. Following a true 25
legislative format and held within the setting in which the lawmaking 26
process normally takes place, the mock debates will provide the 27
group’s members with an excellent opportunity to engage in a 28
simulation of government in action; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 30
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, authorize the use of 31
the Ohio Senate Chamber and hearing rooms on March 18, 2024, by the 32
Western Ohio National Speech and Debate Association for its 33
Congressional Debate Tournament, contingent upon the availability of 34
those facilities, and commend all those involved with this event on 35
their civic responsibility; and be it further 36
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 37
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Western Ohio National 38
Speech and Debate Association. 39
