A RESOLUTION
Honoring Timothy Young on his retirement as the Ohio
Public Defender.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Timothy Young on 2
the occasion of his retirement as the public defender for the State of 3
Ohio; and 4
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career in the field of law, 5
Timothy Young has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to performing 6
his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with the utmost 7
efficiency and competence. Previously serving fourteen years with the 8
Montgomery County Public Defender Office, he became the state public 9
defender sixteen years ago, and during his tenure, he has been 10
instrumental in implementing qualifications for attorneys and 11
standards for training and caseloads, establishing a wrongful 12
conviction project, and modifying various criminal justice laws. In 13
addition, he has been active with the National Association for Public 14
Defense, which he helped to found, and the National Legal Aid and 15
Defender Association; and 16
WHEREAS, Timothy Young is, indeed, a remarkable individual, 17
combining civic concern with selfless initiative to become a dynamic 18
leader in the State of Ohio. Always sincere and energetic in his 19
approach to his work, he has given generously of his time and 20
abilities far beyond what was required or expected and has displayed a 21
genuine commitment to improving the quality of life in our society; 22

WHEREAS, The enthusiasm and expertise Timothy Young has shown in 24

his endeavors have earned him the respect of all those with whom he 25
has been associated. As he retires, he has the satisfaction of knowing 26
that he has provided a valuable service to the state and has 27
established a record of personal and professional achievement that 28
will stand as a hallmark for others to emulate; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 30
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Timothy 31
Young on his retirement and salute him as one of Ohio’s finest 32
citizens; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 34
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Timothy Young. 35
