A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Manatoc Scout Reservation on its Centennial.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Manatoc Scout Reservation of 2
the Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America as it celebrates 3
its One Hundredth Anniversary; and 4
WHEREAS, The Manatoc Scout Reservation has helped numerous 5
children and young adults to prepare themselves for meaningful and 6
productive roles in society through adherence to such principles as 7
trustworthiness, leadership, and initiative. Camp Manatoc opened as a 8
summer camp by the Boy Scouts in 1923 on land donated by Akron 9
industrialist H. Karl Butler, and it expanded with additional acreage 10
in 1932, later adding Camp Butler to become the Manatoc Scout 11
Reservation. Since its founding, the reservation has provided 12
countless individuals with an opportunity to share and enjoy an 13
atmosphere of fellowship and camaraderie, as well as to experience a 14
wide range of activities that help build character and skills. Indeed, 15
this outstanding facility has greatly enriched the lives of those who 16
have attended it, and all those associated with the camps are truly 17
deserving of high praise; and 18
WHEREAS, Willingly giving of their time, energy, and abilities, 19
the staff and volunteers at the Manatoc Scout Reservation have worked 20
tirelessly to create a memorable experience for the scouts. We are 21
proud to note that it is through the diligent efforts of conscientious 22
individuals such as these that the State of Ohio continues to grow and 23
prosper and remains a pleasant place in which to live and work; and 24
WHEREAS, Scouting combines the wisdom and leadership of adults 25
with the enthusiasm and optimism of youth so that our young people 26
will be better prepared for the years to come. The ongoing support of 27

those affiliated with the Manatoc Scout Reservation is further 28
assurance that scouts will receive the guidance and understanding 29
needed to encourage them to strive for excellence in all their 30
endeavors; therefore be it 31
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 32
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the Manatoc 33
Scout Reservation of the Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of 34
America on its One Hundredth Anniversary and salute its staff and 35
volunteers as outstanding Ohioans; and be it further 36
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 37
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Manatoc Scout 38
Reservation. 39
