A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Northern Ohio Golf Course Superintendents
Association on its One Hundredth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Northern Ohio Golf Course 2
Superintendents Association on its Centennial; and 3
WHEREAS, As the sport of golf began taking root in Ohio in the 4
1890s, Joe Mitchell was hired in 1898 by the Country Club of Cleveland 5
to maintain its new golf course, making him the first greenkeeper in 6
Northern Ohio, and by 1923, a group of dedicated individuals such as 7
he met and formed what would become the Northern Ohio Golf Course 8
Superintendents Association. Today, the organization has grown to more 9
than three hundred members from some one hundred fifty-four facilities 10
and companies in Northern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, and its 11
unwavering commitment to excellence is certainly worthy of 12
acknowledgement; and 13
WHEREAS, Due to the tremendous effort and initiative it has 14
displayed, the Northern Ohio Golf Course Superintendents Association 15
has expanded significantly during the last century, and this notable 16
organization is truly deserving of high praise. This special 17
anniversary offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the 18
association’s tradition of success and to look with optimism to the 19
future; and 20
WHEREAS, It is not surprising that the Northern Ohio Golf Course 21
Superintendents Association has achieved widespread recognition, for 22
it has far surpassed the expectations of its members and their 23
communities. Indeed, it exemplifies their pride in the region’s golf 24
courses and sets the standard to which other such groups can aspire; 25
therefore be it 26

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 27
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the Northern 28
Ohio Golf Course Superintendents Association on the occasion of its 29
Centennial and salute its members as some of Ohio’s finest citizens; 30
and be it further 31
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 32
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Northern Ohio Golf Course 33
Superintendents Association. 34
