A RESOLUTION
In memory of Catherine Barrett.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Catherine 2
Barrett and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and 3
friends; and 4
WHEREAS, Catherine Barrett left an indelible impression on the 5
people whose lives she touched, and she will be remembered as a 6
spirited individual who contributed immeasurably to the world around 7
her. A devoted public servant, she was elected to the Ohio House of 8
Representatives in 1999 by the residents of Ohio’s 31st District. 9
During her four terms in office, she served on the Agriculture and 10
Natural Resources, Education, Finance and Appropriations, Retirement 11
and Aging, Local Government and Township, and Technology and Elections 12
committees, the Agriculture and Development subcommittee, and the 13
Quality Education for Ohio’s School Children special committee. In 14
addition, she was vice president and chair of the Ohio House Women’s 15
Democratic Caucus. She brought to the Ohio General Assembly a wealth 16
of experience gained as the mayor of Forest Park and a member of its 17
city council, a financial consultant and analyst, and a business 18
owner, and her passionate advocacy for the causes she held dear earned 19
her the respect of her peers; and 20
WHEREAS, Catherine Barrett’s regard for improving the quality of 21
life in our society was clearly evident in her personal sacrifices of 22
time and effort to her family, friends, and community. A loving wife, 23
a devoted mother to her six children, Cheryl, Darryl, Lamonte, Roy, 24
Barbara, and the late Donetta, a doting grandmother to her nine 25
grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two 26

great-great-grandchildren, she displayed exceptional concern and 27
insight, and her absence will be keenly felt by her extended family 28
and friends; and 29
WHEREAS, In numerous roles, Catherine Barrett always used her 30
talents to the benefit of others, and the laurels of her life stand as 31
a tribute not only to her but also to those she left behind. Although 32
the void her death has created can never be filled, the legacy of care 33
and commitment she established will surely live on. The world is a 34
richer place for her having been in it, and she will be sorely missed; 35
therefore be it 36
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 37
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, express a profound 38
sense of loss and sincere regret at the death of Catherine Barrett 39
and, in so doing, pay tribute to the memory of a truly unique woman; 40
and be it further 41
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 42
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Catherine 43
Barrett. 44
