A RESOLUTION
Honoring White Water Shaker Village
on its Two Hundredth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to White Water 2
Shaker Village as it celebrates its Bicentennial; and 3
WHEREAS, White Water Shaker Village is deserving of praise, for 4
it has played an important role in Ohio’s history. Founded in 1823 by 5
members of the United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second 6
Appearing, a religious group commonly known as the Shakers, the 7
establishment thrived for nearly a century but closed after the Civil 8
War, and the land was sold to several independent families to farm. 9
Between 1989 and 1991, these properties were purchased by the Great 10
Parks of Hamilton County, and the community’s more than twenty 11
remaining Shaker-built structures were stabilized; and 12
WHEREAS, All those associated with White Water Shaker Village, 13
including Friends of White Water Shaker Village, Inc., are to be 14
commended for their foresight, dedication, and selfless donations of 15
time, energy, and ability far beyond what was required or expected. 16
These fine people have worked to develop preservation, conservation, 17
and restoration strategies so that these monuments to an important 18
time in America’s cultural heritage can continue to be enjoyed by all 19
who visit the site, and they have earned the respect and admiration of 20
many and have set an example of concerned and responsible citizenship 21
worthy of emulation; and 22
WHEREAS, In this modern era, it is not only enlightening but also 23
satisfying to discover that some representations of the past still 24
stand for future generations as a record of, and a monument to, 25
previous achievements. We are certain that in the years to come, White 26

Water Shaker Village will continue to make positive contributions to 27
the surrounding area while standing as an example of the rich heritage 28
of bygone days; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 30
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 31
congratulate White Water Shaker Village on its Two Hundredth 32
Anniversary and extend best wishes for the future; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 34
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to White Water Shaker 35
Village. 36
