A RESOLUTION
Honoring Betsy Houchen on her retirement from the Ohio
Board of Nursing.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 134th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Betsy Houchen on her retirement 2
as executive director of the Ohio Board of Nursing, September 30, 3
2021; and 4
WHEREAS, Betsy Houchen is worthy of recognition, for she has 5
combined civic concern with the utmost professionalism to become a 6
respected leader in Ohio’s public health and nursing communities 7
through her nearly twenty years with the Ohio Board of Nursing. 8
Commencing her tenure as a staff attorney in the compliance division 9
prior to being appointed executive director, a post she has held for 10
the past sixteen years, she has given freely of her time and talent to 11
support Ohio’s nurses as well as ensure the public’s confidence in the 12
profession; and 13
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Betsy Houchen has clearly shown 14
the potential of each person to have a positive effect on the quality 15
of life in our society. Among her accomplishments as the head of the 16
Ohio Board of Nursing, which regulates the largest number of licensed 17
professionals of any agency in the state, Director Houchen implemented 18
Compliance Unit protocols and helped develop the Patient Safety 19
Initiative, and she was selected as a member of the National Council 20
of State Boards of Nursing Board of Directors. She has certainly 21
distinguished herself as a conscientious and responsible Ohioan whose 22
endeavors are deserving of acknowledgement; and 23
WHEREAS, We are proud to note that it is through the unsurpassed 24
efforts and deep commitment of diligent people such as Betsy Houchen 25
that the State of Ohio continues to grow and prosper. To her credit, 26

she has displayed a genuine dedication to attaining her goals in a 27
skillful and professional manner by striving to advocate for optimal 28
public health, and we applaud her on her fine work; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 134th General 30
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, commend Betsy Houchen 31
on her retirement and extend best wishes for the years to come; and be 32
it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 34
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Betsy Houchen. 35
