TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the alcoholic beverage control law, in relation to an
exemption for certain property in the village of Lake Placid from the
prohibition of alcohol sales within a certain distance from a church

PURPOSE:
To authorize the state Liquor Authority to issue an on-premises license
to a business within 200 feet of a church within the village of Lake
Placid.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 Permits SLA to grant an on-premises license to the business
located at 2442 Main Street in Lake Placid, the former Great Adirondack
Steak and Seafood restaurant.
Section 2 Provides effective date

JUSTIFICATION:
For about 40 years, the owners of Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood
enjoyed an on-premises liquor license at the restaurant, which is
located next door to St. Eustace Episcopal Church.
However, when the property was sold in 2025, the license did not trans-
fer to the new ownership group. After consultation with SLA, the new
owners have asked for this legislation so the business can remain fully
operational.
