TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the not-for-profit corporation law, in relation to
exempting the East Concord Fire Department, Inc. from the requirement
that the percentage of non-resident fire department members not exceed
forty-five percent of the membership
 
PURPOSE OF BILL:
To allow the East Concord Fire Department, Inc. to have enough members
to maintain sufficient operations.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of this bill waives the East Concord Fire Department from
the provision of law limiting non-resident members in a fire corporation
to forty five percent of the actual membership.
§ 2. Sets forth the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Organized in 1948, the East Concord Fire Department, Inc, provides fire
protection services to the fire district residents situated in the Town
of Concord, Erie County. Recruitment- and retention of volunteer fire-
fighters continue to be a challenge for many departments across New
York, including the East Concord Fire Department Inc. This Bill will
provide the department with the latitude to fill vacant positions with
volunteers who reside outside the fire department boundaries.
