TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the retirement and social security law, the education
law, the military law, the general municipal law and the administrative
code of the city of New York, in relation to extending the twenty-five
year presumptive eligibility period for certain retirement benefits for
injuries or illnesses related to World Trade Center rescue, recovery and
clean-up operations
 
PURPOSE:
Extends the twenty-five year presumptive eligibility period for certain
retirement benefits for injuries or illnesses related to World Trade
Center rescue, recovery and clean-up operation by 10 years.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Sections 1 through 13 amend various sections of the retirement and
social security law to extend the presumptive eligibility period by ten
years.
Section 14 amends subparagraph (e) of subdivision 25 of section 2575 of
the education law to do the same.
Section 15 amends subdivision i of section 208-f of the general munici-
pal law to do the same.
Sections 16 through 19 amend various sections of the administrative code
of the city of New York to do the same.
Section 20 states that notwithstanding any other provision to the
contrary, the provisions of this act shall not be subject to section 25
of the retirement and social security law.
Section 21 provides the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
To extend the presumptive eligibility period for certain retirement
benefits for those who responded to 9/11 by 10 years.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
