BILL NUMBER: S10066
SPONSOR: STAVISKY
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 534 of the laws of 1993, amending the education
law relating to physical therapy assistants, in relation to the effec-
tiveness thereof
PURPOSE:
To extend the current statutory authorization relating to physical ther-
apist assistants in home care settings by continuing the law through
June 30, 2030.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill amends section 2 of chapter 534 of the laws of
1993, as amended by chapter 281 of the laws of 2022, to extend the expi-
ration date of the law from June 30, 2026, to June 30, 2030.
Section two provides that the act shall take effect immediately.
JUSTIFICATION:
Current law allowing certain provisions relating to physical therapist
assistants is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026. This bill would
extend those provisions for four additional years, through June 30,
2030, so that the existing framework may remain in effect without inter-
ruption. Continuing the law helps preserve stability for providers and
patients while allowing the State to maintain the current approach
already authorized in statute. This is an extender bill and does not
appear to make new substantive policy changes beyond extending the
sunset date.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter 534 of the laws of 1993. Amended by chapter 281 of the laws of
2022.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
