TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Edward "Red" Corrigan
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 and 2 adds a new section 345-e to the highway law to dedicate
the bridge over NY-112 in Patchogue to Edward "Red' Corrigan and
provides for appropriate signage.
Section 3 provides the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Edward "Red" Corrigan was storied member of the volunteer firefighter
community in the Town of Brookhaven. He was an active member of the
North Patchogue Fire Department for 53 years. Over the course of his
fire service, he attained the ranks of Captain of the Department and
Fire Police Lieutenant. Along with his service with the NPFD, he was
head mechanic for the Holtsville Fire Department, President of the
Brookhaven Town Volunteer Firefighter's Museum, and part of the Patc-
hogue Fire Department's legendary "Forty Thieves" 7 time New York State
Champion fire drill racing team. In addition to his fire service, the
life-long Patchogue resident was a U.S. Army veteran and Trustee of the
First Baptist Church of Patchogue.
The Route 112 bridge over Sunrise Highway is one of the main North-South
access roads into the Village of Patchogue. Naming this overpass for Red
Corrigan is a fitting tribute to an individual who volunteered so much
for his community.
