TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 460 of the laws of 2021 amending the vehicle and
traffic law, the general municipal law and the public officers law
relating to certain traffic infractions and notices of liability and
amending the vehicle and traffic law relating to adjudications and owner
liability for a violation of traffic-control signal indications in the
village of Pelham Manor, in relation to the effectiveness thereof
 
PURPOSE:
To extend the expiration of the red-light camera program in the village
of Pelham Manor.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of this bill amends section 14 of chapter 460 of the laws of
2021 to extend the expiration of the authorization for traffic-control
signal photo violation monitoring devices from December 1, 2026, to
December 1, 2031.
Section two provides the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill extends the sunset provision of the 2021 law authorizing the
village of Pelham Manor to install and operate traffic- control signal
photo violation-monitoring devices or "red light cameras." The extension
ensures continuity of enforcement of traffic-control signal violations
and supports public safety objectives by allowing the program to contin-
ue through December 1, 2031.
