TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 787 of the laws of 1934 relating to the
collection and disposal of garbage and other refuse substances, in
relation to the appointment of commissioners for the Seaview/Ocean Bay
Park garbage district

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Relates to the appointment of commissioners for the Seaview/Ocean Bay
Park garbage district

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 8-a of section 1 of chapter 787 of
the laws of 1934, relating to the collection and disposal of garbage and
other refuse substances, as added by chapter 478 of the laws of 1982, is
amended.
Section 2. Effective Date

JUSTIFICATION:
The original law was created in 1934, and it has since been amended
twice. We believe that the amendments proposed would create a much fair-
er representation of the residents of the district and better serve the
2025 needs of everyone in the District.
The legislation would achieve the following:
Change the legislation to read that the five (5) member Garbage Commis-
sion must be comprised of a minimum of two from the Seaview community
and two from the Ocean Bay Park (OBP) community. The fifth commissioner
could be elected from either of the two representative communities.
Change the legislation so the elected Presidents of Seaview and Ocean
Bay Park would also be appointed as Garbage Commissioners with same
rights and privileges as the 5 elected commissioners therefore, making
the Garbage District go from 5 commissioners to 7 commissioners properly
representing the two taxable communities that comprise the District.
