TITLE OF BILL:
An act granting retroactive tier IV membership in the New York state and
local employees' retirement system to Katie Adamek
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would grant Katie Adamek retroactive Tier IV membership in the
New York State and Local Employees Retirement System.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section I: Changes Katie Adamek's effective membership date in the New
York State and Local Employees' Retirement System from November 23, 2009
she may be placed in the Tier IV retirement group. She shall file with
the State Comptroller a written request to this effect within one year
of the effective date of this act. Section II: Describes who is respon-
sible for any past cost incurred in implementing the provisions of this
act.
 
JUSTIFICATION: Katie Adamek commenced employment with the Schenectady
City School District on November 23, 2009, which should have entitled
her to Tier IV membership in the New York tate and Local Employees'
Retirement System. However, for reasons not due to any negligence on her
part, Ms. Adamek was not entered into the retirement system at this time
granting her Tier V membership, and she should not be penalized for this
error.
