TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system in the town of Lewisboro, county of Westches-
ter, to the Reynolds family
PURPOSE:
To dedicate a portion of the state highway in the town of Lewisboro,
county of Westchester, to the Reynolds family.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one amends section 344-s of the highway law to outline the
designation of a portion of state route thirty-five to the Reynolds
family.
Section two outlines the role of the commissioner of transportation in
the signing and maintenance of the highway's dedicated portion.
Section three provides the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
The Reynolds family embodies Cross River, recognizing generations of
residents whose history and service are deeply interwoven with the
area's heritage. The family played a crucial role in establishing the
community and contributed to the founding of the Cross River Baptist
Church in 1789, following the American Revolution.
Born and raised in the Reynolds family home along Route 35, Lois
Reynolds remained devoted to her hometown through her leadership at the
Cross River Baptist Church, as well as service to the Lewisboro Seniors
as president. Civic engagement was at the forefront of her mission,
ultimately being inducted into the Westchester County Senior Hall of
Fame for her lasting impact on generations of residents. This roadway
honors not only Lois' legacy and years of extraordinary service, but
also honors the Reynolds family's centuries-long contributions to the
history, civic life, and continued spirit of the Cross River.
