TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the village law and the public officers law, in relation
to qualifications to hold the positions of village treasurer, deputy
village treasurer, village clerk, deputy clerk and building inspector in
the village of Briarcliff Manor
 
PURPOSE:
To remove the requirement that one needs to be a resident of the village
of Briarcliff Manor to hold the positions of village treasurer, deputy
village treasurer, village clerk, deputy clerk, or building inspector in
the village of Briarcliff Manor.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends Section 3-300 of the village law and establishes the
qualifications to hold the stated positions.
Section 2 amends Section 3 of the Public Officers Law by adding a new
subdivision 77.
Section 3 establishes the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Current law establishes that when selecting a candidate for the posi-
tions of village treasurer, deputy village treasurer, village clerk,
deputy clerk, and building inspector in the village of Briarcliff Manor,
they need to be a resident of Westchester County. This legislation will
remove that requirement and expand the application pool to additional
applicants, regardless of where they reside, specifically for neighbor-
ing counties and Dutchess County, as long as there are no other
provisions provided by other acts of the state legislature.

This is a new bill.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
