TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to enacting the
"Edeedson 'Joshy' Cine, Jr. Transparency Act" requiring the release of
certain surveillance footage to law enforcement agencies
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Relates to the release of certain surveillance footage to law enforce-
ment agencies.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Is the short title.
Section 2. Adds a new section 393-g to the general business law. This
section includes the specific requirements that are expected of business
when complying with New York State Law Enforcement Agencies when it
comes to surveillance footage.
Section 3. Is the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The Edeedson Cine Jr. bill is proposed to address a critical gap in law
enforcement's ability to access surveillance footage promptly. With the
increasing prevalence of public and private surveillance systems, the
timely release of this footage can significantly enhance the effective-
ness of investigations, ultimately improving public safety and community
trust in law enforcement.
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
