TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing
the town of Hempstead in the county of Nassau to establish a residential
parking system in the neighborhood of West Hempstead
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to authorize the Town of Hempstead to devel-
op and implement a parking zone within the area of West Hempstead, New
York.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of this bill would amend Subdivision 2 of Section 1662-E of
New York State Vehicle Traffic Law Title 8, Article 41 by adding the
following provision: "(v) within the area known as West Hempstead of the
town consisting of the following roadways:
(a) Bedell Terrace;
(b) Woodlawn Road."
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation aims to satisfy the required approval from the State
for the town to develop and implement a parking zone.This legislation is
being introduced in response to a petition sent by residents who reside
on the streets in question. The residents raised concerns over lack of
ability to park near their residences because of a newly established
school nearby having insufficient parking for its needs.
The Traffic Control Division for the Town of Hempstead conducted a traf-
fic survey on these roadways and concluded with the following recommen-
dations for restrictions, citing "quality-of-life" issues in the vicini-
ty of the school.

-"One Hour Parking", and "Resident Only Parking" Woodlawn Road
-"Resident Only Parking"
