TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public service law, in relation to requiring utili-
ties to automatically enroll customers over the age of fifty-five in any
available savings programs
 
SUBJECT AND PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to rider a new section numbered 54, the
section is to have utility companies to automatically enroll customers
over the age of fifty-five to their savings and discount program and
provide an op out mechanism of such programs if they choose to.
 
SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Utility automatic savings program
Section 2. This bill shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it
shall become a law.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Many individuals of the age of fifty-five don't know about many of the
savings' programs they are entitled to due to utility services not
informing them of their discount or saving programs. This legislation is
to direct and requires utility companies to enroll those individuals
that meet the requirements stated and give them a choice to opt out if
they choose to.
