TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the election law, in relation to removing designating
letters on ballots
 
PURPOSE:
To make it optional to include designating letters on ballots
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill amends subdivision 7 of § 7-104 of the election
law so that ballots are no longer required to include a designating
letter for each party or independent row.
Section two of the bill relates to the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Under current election law, ballots must assign a designating letter to
each row or column containing the names of candidates in the same party
or independent body. This bill would make it optional to print such
designating letters to help free up space on ballots.
