PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The bill mandates training and certification for fire-resistant material
applicators and imposes fines for violations.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. § 155-a of the executive law is amended by adding two new

JUSTIFICATION:
Building fires can escalate rapidly, reaching extreme temperatures of
1,000 degrees Fahrenheit in mere minutes. This underscores the critical
importance of effective fireproofing measures to safeguard structural
steel and prevent catastrophic collapses and fire-related fatalities.
Requiring fire-resistant material applicators to undergo a training
program will ensure these essential materials are applied correctly and
consistently by trained professionals, providing a vital layer of
protection for buildings.
