TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Trooper Arthur A. Reddy
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Dedicates a portion of the state highway system to Trooper Arthur B.
Reddy.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section § 344-s to
read as follows: 344-s. Portion of the state highway system to be dedi-
cated to Trooper Arthur A. Reddy. The bridge over the Southern State
Parkway on Deer ParkAvenue between Parkdale Drive and Sylvan Road in the
town of Babylon, county of Suffolk, shall be dedicated to Trooper Arthur
A. Reddy.
§ 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the installa-
tion and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as
dedicated pursuant to section one of this act, provided that such sign-
ing shall state "Bridge Dedicated to Trooper Arthur A Reddy". However,
to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the
dedication called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one
of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be
changed as a result of this act.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Trooper Arthur B. Reddy, along with his partner Trooper Gerard B. Kane
died instantly on November 15, 1937 when their automobile struck a tree
while responding to a report of criminal mischief to equipment used to
build the Parkway system on Long Island. Their car left a dirt road
adjacent to Deer Park Avenue in the Town of Babylon. This legislation is
to pay tribute to Trooper Arthur B. Reddy for his honorable and heroic
service.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
