TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to providing confiden-
tiality for communications arising out of law enforcement peer support
counseling
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to L.2025, C.641.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by limiting when a peer
support participant may disclose confidential communication to members
of the same law enforcement agency and clarifies that nothing within the
statute shall prevent or limit required disclosure concerning child
abuse, mandatory extreme risk protection orders, or as required by any
court order. Further, the Division of Criminal Justice Services will
approve training courses and, if necessary, develop rules and regu-
lations.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2025 amending the executive law relating to
providing confidentiality for communications arising out of law enforce-
ment peer support counseling, as proposed in legislative bills numbers
S. 6244-A and A. 6721-A, takes effect.
