TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend a chapter of the laws of 2025 amending the public health
law relating to permitting a close friend to make an anatomical gift of
a decedent's body, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 3360 and
A. 1395, in relation to the effectiveness thereof
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to L.2025, c.506, modify-
ing the effective date.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
S.3360 adds "close friend" to the list of people who are permitted to
make an anatomical gift ofa decedent's body.
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by changing the effective
date from January 1 after becoming law to 180 days after becoming law.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
 
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter amendment to Chapter 506 of the Laws of 2025. S.3360 and A.1395
passed the Senate and Assembly in June 2025 and March 2025 respectively.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2025 amending the public health law relating to
permitting a close friend to make an anatomical gift of a decedent's
body, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 3360 and A.1395, takes
effect.
