TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 670 of the laws of 2021, requiring the office
for people with developmental disabilities to establish the care demon-
stration program, in relation to the establishment of a care demon-
stration program and the effectiveness thereof
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is to extend, until March 31, 2028, the Office
for People with Developmental Disabilities' (OPWDD) authority to admin-
ister the care demonstration program to ensure community-based services
continue for individuals with disabilities.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of this bill would extend, until March 31, 2028, the Office
for People with Developmental Disabilities' (OPWDD) authority to admin-
ister the care demonstration program to ensure community-based services
continue for individuals with disabilities.
Section 2 of this bill provides that the effective date shall take
effect immediately.
JUSTIFICATION:
Currently, OPWDD offers certain community-based programs to people with
developmental disabilities. These successful and popular programs
provide critical support to individuals who may not need residential
care, but who could benefit from services. An extension of the care
demonstration program would highlight the State's commitment to support-
ing New Yorkers with disabilities and ensure that they are able to
access vital services. This bill would extend, until March 31, 2028, the
Office for People with Developmental Disabilities' (OPWDD) authority to
administer the care demonstration program to ensure community based
services continue for individuals with disabilities.
