TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Assistant Fire Chief Jason T. McGlone
 
PURPOSE:
Dedicating a portion of the state highway system in the Town of Hancock
constituting State Highway 30 from NYS Route 17 to the Town of Colches-
ter line, shall be dedicated to Assistant Fire Chief Jason T. McGlone.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
The Commissioner of Transportation shall provide for the installation
and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as
designated pursuant to Section One of this act. However, to avoid
confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig-
nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
the ceremonial natural and the official name of such highway shall not
be changed as a result of this act.
 
EXISTING LAW:
None
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Assistant Fire Chief Jason T. McGlone was a twenty-five year member of
the East Branch Fire Department, serving as Assistant Fire Chief and
previously serving as Fire Police Captain for five years. Assistant Fire
Chief Jason T. McGlone died on July 17, 2025 and was killed in active
line of duty while on the scene of a motor vehicle accident in the Town
of Hancock on State Route 30.
Assistant Fire Chief Jason T. McGlone was a very dedicated fireman who
spent countless hours training and teaching kids about fire safety. He
also volunteered at the Delaware County Fair Fire Prevention tent.
Assistant Fire Chief Jason T. McGlone was the first line of duty death
in the Town of Hancock Fire Service history.
