BILL NUMBER: S8543
SPONSOR: WEBB

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public health law, in relation to directing the
department of health to establish and maintain a menopause informational
and resource webpage on the department website

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This legislation will direct the Department of Health to establish and
maintain an informational and resource webpage specifically in relation
to perimenopause, menopause, and related conditions.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 - Amends the public health law by adding a new paragraph which
requires the Department of Health to create a menopause informational
and resource webpage.
Section 2 - Establishes effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
It is estimated that 6,000 people enter menopause every single day,
which typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. In New York, there
are over a million women who fall within the menopause age range.
According to the World Health Organization, those experiencing menopau-
sal or symptoms of menopause often don't seek support or discuss their
experience due to prevailing stigmas around this natural transition. In
order to help close the resource gap and bring more reliable information
to seeking support, this bill would direct the Department of Health to
create a dedicated informational page on Menopause stages, symptoms, and
related resources, similar to pages that already exist for pregnancy and
other significant health conditions. This legislation would ensure
people experiencing menopause have a convenient and reliable public
resource to rely upon.
