TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the civil service law, in relation to providing a
service credit to military spouses and to surviving spouses of veterans
in competitive examinations
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Establishes credit for military spouses and surviving spouses of veter-
ans for competitive examinations
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Subsection 1: Amend section 85 of the civil service law with two (2) new
paragraphs, e and f which define the term of military spouse and surviv-
ing spouse
Subsection 2: adds that military spouses shall be entitled to receive 3
(three) points on both competitive examinations, including promotional
exams; and that surviving spouses will be entitled to receive 6 (six)
points
Subsection 3: The effective date
