BILL NUMBER: S8323
SPONSOR: SANDERS
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to expanding the
small business mentoring program
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This bill amends § 1265-b of the public authorities law to broaden the
definition of "small business" for purposes of eligibility in the MTA
Small Business Mentoring Program. Specifically, it: ò Expands eligibil-
ity to include independently owned and operated businesses in the
construction trades that perform construction or related services;
JUSTIFICATION:
New York's small construction firms, particularly minority- and women-
owned businesses, often face significant barriers to participating in
large public infrastructure projects. By expanding the definition of
"small business" in the MTA Small Business Mentoring Program, this bill
helps ensure that more qualified small firms can gain access to
contracting opportunities, technical assistance, and capacity-building
support.
