TITLE OF BILL:
An act in relation to authorizing the department of health to designate
a level one or level two trauma center in Far Rockaway, county of Queens
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
direct the department of health to designate a level one or level two
trauma center in Far Rockaway, county of Queens if it meets existing
requirements, department guidelines,
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The Rockaways have a lack of access to a high level trauma center.
Currently, there are not the resources to build a new hospital, which
the present New York State Law requires for either a Level 1 or Level 2
trauma center. Therefore, this bill exempts the requirement to have a
Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center attached to a hospital in Far Rockaway
to ensure that the Rockaways have the capability to establish a high
level (1 or 2 Level) trauma center to provide essential health care to
its residents.
