TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 20 of the laws of 1998, amending the education
law relating to the provision of physical therapy assistant services in
public and private primary and secondary schools, in relation to extend-
ing the effectiveness of such chapter
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is to extend, for five years, the authorization
for certain physical therapy assistants to provide services in public
and private primary and secondary schools,
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 would extend, through June 30, 2030, the authorization for
certain physical therapy assistants to provide services in public and
private primary and secondary schools' without the on-site supervision
of a physical therapist.
Section 2 would provide for the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Chapter 20 of the Laws of 1998 authorized physical therapy assistants to
provide services in primary and secondary schools without direct on-site
supervision by a physical therapist. There continues to be a demand for
these services in these settings across the state. This legislation will
ensure the continuity of these services for an additional five years.
