TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to
prohibiting the manufacture, sale, and use of wire grill brushes
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:;
Banning wire grill brushes from being distributed, or manufactured.
 
SUMMARY: OF PROVISION:
Section 1: Amends the environmental conservation law by adding a new
section 37-1301 which specifies a ban on wire grill brushes from being
made and sold, and defines wire grill brushes as used in the section.
Section 2: set effective date
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The use of wire grill brushes can be a serious risk to a person's
health. According to the American Medical Association (AMA) and multiple
medical professionals, the wiresòon wire bristle grill brushes can fall
off and attach to food which can cause them to be ingested. The inges-
tion of these wires can cause internal injuries to the throat, abdomen ,
mouth and tonsils. According to the AMA, more than 1,600 emergency
department visits between 2002 and 2014 were caused by wire-bristle
brushes. The ban on the manufacture, sale and use of wire bristle grill
brushes can help people further enjoy the grilling experience without
the risk of wire brush injury.
