TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to redefining science,
technology, engineering, and math education (STEM)
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Relates to redefining science, technology, engineering and math educa-
tion (STEM)
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Includes computer science in the redefining of the science, technology,
engineering and math education program (STEM).
 
JUSTIFICATION:
STEM traditionally does not include fields such as computer science.
New York State will instead adopt a definition of STEM that embraces
traditional science, technology, engineering, and math fields, as well
as the fields of computer science and other related disciplines that
equip students to pursue work in the Internet-based economy.
